Clinical Psychologist

Chelsea Psychology is delighted to announce the appointment of a highly experienced ADHD and Schema Therapy practitioner to the group’s Nedlands practice.

Clinical Psychologist Dr Jason Brown, who joined Chelsea Psychology in June this year, has an outstanding reputation for the treatment of some of today’s most challenging adult mental health issues including:

  • Adult ADHD
  • Personality disorders (and their treatment with Schema Therapy), and
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

He has completed a PhD in neuropsychological function in young adults with bipolar disorder and/or ADHD, published journal articles on the topic, and presented in Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.

Dr Brown has substantial experience working in general adult mental health, particularly:

  • Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Neuropsychological Assessments for a wide range of disorders
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Depression
  • Couples and relationship problems
  • Trauma including PTSD
  • Social anxiety

He is highly trained in the use of Schema Therapy for people with personality disorders and/or complex Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD). In addition to having extensive experience with traditional cognitive-behavioural therapy, Dr Brown is familiar with a range of other therapeutic modalities including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), a psychotherapy treatment designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories. He is also experienced in the use of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Metacognitive Therapy.

Dr Brown can provide focused neuropsychological assessments and other complex diagnostic assessments of people experiencing a wide range of psychiatric disorders.

Please call Chelsea Psychology on +61 (0)8 9386 6020 for more information, or to book a time with Dr Brown.

*Schema therapy is an integrative form of evidence-based therapy for people who have found themselves repeating unhelpful patterns of behaviour, perhaps even after completing other short-term or skills based therapies, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Schema therapy helps people to make sense of their intense emotional reactions to situations, and any associated entrenched behavioural patterns. Effective use of the therapy can, over time, help to reduce emotional flare-ups and support healthier beliefs and patterns of behaviour. Dr Brown has had success applying this form of treatment to people experiencing personality disorders - including borderline personality disorder – and couples experiencing entrenched patterns of dysfunctional behaviour.
